How to Drape a Silk Saree Perfectly: Step-by-Step Guide
Silk sarees are the heart of Indian ethnic wear. Whether it's a wedding, a festive celebration, or a family gathering, a well-draped silk saree instantly gives you a royal and elegant look. But for many, draping a heavy silk saree can seem a bit tricky.

Don't worry! Here is a simple, step-by-step guide to help you drape a silk saree perfectly and carry it with grace all day long.
Step 1: Start with the Right Base Always wear your blouse and petticoat (or saree shapewear) before you start. Tie the petticoat firmly, as silk sarees are heavier and need a strong grip. Make sure you wear your heels beforehand to get the perfect length!
Step 2: The First Tuck Take the plain end of the saree and tuck it into the right side of your petticoat. Make one complete round, bringing it back to the front. Ensure the bottom edge is grazing the floor.
Step 3: Measure the Pallu Hold the other end of the saree (the pallu) and bring it around your back, over your left shoulder. For the latest saree designs, the pallu looks best when it falls slightly below the back of your knees. Pin it roughly to your blouse so it doesn't slip.

Step 4: Making the Pleats (The Most Important Part!) Use the remaining fabric in the front to make pleats. Try to make about 5 to 7 even pleats. Since silk can be stiff, press down each pleat with your hands. Tuck the neatly gathered pleats into your petticoat, slightly towards the left of your navel. Pro Tip: Use a safety pin to secure all the pleats together inside before tucking them.
Step 5: Setting the Pallu Now remove the rough pin from your shoulder. Take the pallu, make neat pleats, and place it back on your left shoulder. Pin it securely from the inside of your blouse.
Bonus Tip: Once you have worn the saree, you can use a hair straightener (on very low heat) to quickly flatten the pleats and borders!
